Day 2 : Padas White Water Rafting |
Friday, 10 August 2007 |
It was a sunny day. We woke up at 6.30am. After breakfast, Arkin (our Guide & Guard) fetched us at our Hotel Lobby and send us to Beaufort. It was one and half hours bus ride. When we reached Beaufort, it was about 10am. |
At Beaufort, there is only rail service winds along the Padas River, the most challenging rafting site. So we took the train. It was another one and half hours (16km). The train was pretty old and slow. There was no air-con in the train. There were some uncles and aunties carrying big bag full of food selling to the travellers. The view of journey was windows of the Padas Gorge, Kampung houses and we also passed by a primary school, a lot of students were waving their hands to us saying bye-bye....so cute! |
We stopped off at the ending point of our rafting where we left all our belongs at a locker before heading to the starting point. It was another 20mins ancient train ride. When we reached to the starting point of our rafting, we were served with some watermelon, banana and mineral water provided by BUSAT (Organiser). |
Then the guard briefed on the safety, emergency and other techniques before we headed down to the river. It was 9km from the starting point to the end. It roughtly took about 2 hours time. We teamed up with a goup of people from Penang. Our team started at 12.30pm. It was nothing but fun and exciting journey. Our guard, Arkin is a very experienced rafting guard. He knew all the patterns of rafting to make our journey more fun and challenge. We have our own team slogans for the paddling, we started from one-two, one-two; satu-dua, satu-dua, then someone came out with "siu kao po zhi, ka rung guni" hah...We also sang corny songs along the way. |
The journey back was nothing much. We took the old train and then bus back to the KK town. In the bus, they played the DVD movie. I couldn't remember the movie's name. However, the movie was horrible. The whole story was about killing people. Once they killed a person, they sang a song...what in hell the movie was all about. It mades me think of the movie of hostel. If you have watched it before, you should know how disgusting it was. |
When we was about to reach our hotel, Ar Kin guided us where the best place to have seafood, where to shop and where to see the human transformers (Ah Gua). :-) We had our dinner at the famous "Bak Ku Teh" resturant and reached hotel at about 10pm. |
There were totally 6-7 strong current. Before each current, our guard instructed us what to do or which strategy we should use to conquer the strong current. Each strong current was a thrilling ride. And they were most fun part of the journey. We were able to get off the raft to enjoy swiming in the calm parts of the river. You could choose to stay in the raft, however, there were a lot of 'crocodiles' would suddenly approach you and pull you out of the raft...haha...but no worries, they are vegetarian crocodiles. The whole journey was filled up with our laughts and shouts. None of us can get enough of it. Our rafting team was awesome! When we got off our raft, it was the ending point. We took back our things from the locker and had a BBQ lunch - Meehoon, rice, lamb chops, chicken wings, sausages, vegetables, fruits and etc... |
It is all about the TEAM WORK |
